Well the votes have been cast and the results are in. 8 people voted for glo, 19 for Afrobar. Which means the tweetup for the 22nd of June is going to be held at Afrobar.

Even though Afrobar itself doesn’t have a website, it is the upstairs part of ChanCham which has address and instructions on it.

Tweetup AGM

Sorry it’s taken me a while to get the minutes from the AGM out, but here we are. On the 9th of June we held our rdgtweetup AGM to discuss the future of the Tweetup and ideas to regenerate it. The minutes are as followed (kindly written down by @amykate):

Welcome

Failing numbers attending, how can we put more life into the event.

Venues

Glo has been failing as a venue. More and more we are being kicked out of our ‘private area’. It is very expensive.

Glo – too expensive, but a private environment

Sahib – glo is good, and the private area is no longer there, so should move

Pitcher and Piano – wasn’t a private area,

Ray – people won’t go to glo, it’s a bar,

Copa – but lots of other things are happening there
Not need a private area at such, but there are befits – people are not confused, they know who is there, you can talk to anyone thre as they are all part of the same group.
Not a deal breaker if there is low background noise
Wifi – a nice to have,
Greg / workhouse coffee (there is a bar next door)
Caversham – a bit far out,
A larger choose of drinks, cheaper soft drinks
La Tasca down stairs
Ivory Lounge area – but is it a bit loud
Bar Iguana, st mary’s butts, student venue after 10pm so

Attendants

Amy and Katherine to start bullying people
Need to create a tweet buzz again,
Publicity – sustain, organically
Every 2 weeks, generally like that
More pimping
Ambassador, thirst and tell them

Why?

Netw0rking event
Not a learning experience as that’s covered by reading geek night
Not necessarily a techie events, which is a good thing
Meeting new people is kid of what it’s about – JA

How do they discover it, and once they’ve discovered it how do we make the barrier to turn up bad?

Welcoming
A way to meet new people
Show that there will be not just talking about twitter, range of interests
It’s not just geeks / twitter addicts
It’s better for people to find it though network / friend trees
Use both the hash tags when needed

Action

Dan – ask glo why no private
Facebook page, mail everyone 2 days beforehand

Reading Tweetup AGM

We have closed the doodle, and the RDGTweetup AGM is going to be held this Wednesday (9th June) 7:30pm – 8:30pm at the Back of Beyond (see map below). We should be on a fairly large table at the back.

The #rdgtweetup will still be going ahead at 8pm at Glo (just like it always does), the AGM should be over by 8:30 where we expect to meet everyone else at Glo.

Hope everyone who is interested in making a difference to Reading Tweetup can make it.

RDGTweetup AGM

Rdgtweetup has now been running for over a year. Which means it’s time for the AGM, i know AGM are quite boring but this one will be exciting. We need to decide on the format and direction to take the rdgtweetup events over the coming year. So bring yourselves, your friends and any ideas you have to the AGM.

There are 4 dates available and 5 times on each date. The AGM will be held one whichever one has the highest participants.

Wednesday 9th, Thursday 10th, Wednesday 16th and Thursday 17th at either 7, 7.30, 8, 8.30 or 9 in the evening. Please fill in this doodle form and stay tuned to both the blog and twitter account for the final date and time.

You have probably seen the poll and post about a new venue. It is taking more time than expected to find a venue with cheaper drinks and a dedicated space for us, if you would like to help with this, feel free to come along a bit early, say 7.45pm and we’ll have a brain-storm

Official start time is still 8pm but we have the venue from 7.30pm so you can arrive any time after that if you wish.

New Venue For 2010?

We have had a great run of Tweetups at Glo in 2009

But there has been talk of a new venue for some time – well, let’s get on with it!

If you can think of a great place to hold the next #rdgtweetup on Wednesday 20th January then make a suggestion in the comments. I’ll then cook up a little poll and we can vote for the most popular choice.

To give us time for voting, deciding and publicising the change of location, please make your suggestion of a new venue by 11pm on Friday 15th Jan.

Christmas Party 2009

It’s that time of year again Christmas is upon us and we are holding a Christmas Tweetup! It will be at 8pm on Tuesday the 22nd of December at Giraffe. The cost is approximately £15.95 (for 2 courses) or £19.95 (for 3 courses), we are looking to get a discount so hopefully it will be a bit cheaper. You can view the Christmas menu here.

If you are interested in coming please leave a comment below with your twitter details by 13:00 on 9th of December.

Each booking has to have a £10.00 deposit, payable by then end of tweetup on the 9th of December. There are 2 payment methods:

BACS Payment, we will DM you the rdgtweetup bank account details
Cash on the 9th of December
